View Full Version : Its been a long run guys

Well I think it is my time,
It has been a long year and 3-4 months but I think i need to say a (somewhat) goodbye to Cains Lair.
Note: I want all of this not to be taken personal to Cain or anyone on here...here it goes...
The reason I say this is that all/most of the original people I knew and grew up with in BF2 are either no longer here..I havent talked to in a long time..or they have moved on to a different game. I hardly have time to play on 2142 anymore.
The newer games that we have tried I dont even have an urge to Install. Pirates and UT3 are sitting in the Fileplanet Downloader thing waiting to be installed.
The forums just aren't the same. I remember alot of people and alot of big threads and interesting discussions. It just doesnt seem like its there anymore.
Certain people that I looked up to I havent talk to in god knows how long:
Darth
Hazz
Storm Shadow
BlackArrow
Limey
Sirex
Jean HOWEVER YOU SPELL THE CAPITOL OF ALASKA!! :D
Apache (apoke)
Vito
Killa etc.
and more. I havent talked to alot of people in a long time.
All the people I grew up with in Bf2..It just doesnt seem likes its there.
Im going to leave it up to you guys.
Poll will go with this:
Should i stay?
Yes
No
Dont know you enough to answer.
I encourage everyone to vote and leave a comment.
If I dont get enough support I will announce my official (temporary untill something else good comes up) LEave of Absence.
Thank you to Cain and all of the Admins and Members and Officers that make up Cains Lair today.
Baller
PS. Feel free to PM me if oyu need something private.

Jean here! Of course i think you should hang around. Even if you don't play, the forums are always good for a read. Especially now as more and more old timers are back to mix it up a little.
If the games that were being played here were not to my liking i'd still have to stick around as i'd miss this place too much and all the people within it.
You can disapear every now and then though. We'll always be here when you get back.
Oh, and i voted 'yes'. :D

I'm not going to vote, because I'm in the same situation as baller. The forums seem to be losing my interests, and so are the games. It's not fun seeing the only new posts in games that I have absoluetly no interests to play.
It's been fun here, but hopefully there will be a game in the future I can play again to have some fun.
I'll be honest, it was a big disappiontment seeing everyone hating ET:QW. I'm loving this game, and I've had so much fun I feel like I'm playing BF2 once again. (of course different style of gameplay, but the fun all the same).
I haven't touched 2142, nor do I plan to. That was a great game, but people exploited it so much that it sucked. You all said Quake was too linear, but what fun is it chasing the other team in a big circle capping silos? And destroying the titan, what fun is it getting nades chucked at you and people stat padding using the excuse they are "defending".
It's been fun here, but hopefully there will be a game that will bring everyone back together.
And as the forums go, it seems less and less people are using them.
I wasn't around doing the other Unreal Tournament, so I can't say much, but from my experiences BF2 brought the biggest crowd, and it sucks to see it go.

Of course stay... that's crazy talk, Baller.
I found Cain's Lair shortly after I started playing BF2; I don't play much of anything much lately but will hang around the Lair until Cain kicks me out :). My gaming time is down to a few hours a month, at most, but I still love to come here and be part of this community.

Baller bro. I can not answer yes, no, or otherwise. That is a decision that only you can make. I am sure nobody, including myself, want to see you go but you have to do what you feel is best for you and you alone. Maybe you just need to disappear for a little while and take a break. I know that when I fell off of the face of the interwebamajiggy thing, I felt like I had a new experience when I returned. The same faces are here along with plenty of new ones that I have not yet had the pleasure of snip.. err.. meeting. It may do you a world of good to step back for a while as well.
So there you have my suggestion. When things get stale, just step back and take a breather. We all understand it happens and will be here when you return.

I really encourage you NOT to leave, Baller. :2thumbs:
Of course it's fun to play alongside other regulars in games you enjoy, but as new games are released, some are forced to the side due to lack of interest (in general) and lack of funds.
Still, even if you may not be actively playing a game at the moment, you've no doubt made some friends here at Cain's. You posted a large list of members who you've fragged alongside and had a blast with, but it can extend beyond the gaming realm. Stick around for the forums...I know you said the forums aren't the same for you anymore, but it may just be that not playing one of the games makes the forums seem less active.
At most, I encourage you to take a small break, come back, and see if the forums aren't more appealing. I'd hate to see you go. You've made friends here at Cain's, and even though the forums may not be so appealing to you, I encourage you to at least keep in touch with those you've mentioned.
I'd love to see you stay, but it's ultimately up to you. If you are going to take an extended break (nobody leaves forever :) ) I encourage you to keep in touch with some of the regulars, and check back here often.

Well, I am not going to vote, I like you and I want you to stay BUT.. I agree with 3eggs, you should do whatever YOU want to do, not what people vote.
If the poll is to see who supports you, I tell you that you have my support in whatever decission you take.
I understand what you mean and how you feel but In any case, we will be here waiting for your return!

There is no real commitment to forums. You kind of just come and go as you please.

BTW, all of those people that you listed as not talking to anymore. They are still talking, just talking in other parts of the forums, like the UT3 and TF2 sections. Have you even tried TF2 or UT3? Only asking because I don't honestly think it's fair to say that nothing interests you untill you at least try it. UT3 demo is free, and TF2 will have a try it for a week/weekend up at some point. Simply saying, give them a shot. Ya never know.

Ahhh, another 'Should I leave or should I stay' post. Guys, the games come and go on the Lair. I've lost my favorite game from the Lair rotation, Enemy Territory, many moons ago but I am still here in the forums to represent. You don't have to leave just because the game goes away, you just sit on a shelf like a fine wine and age gracefully.
I continued playing ET wherever I found a good server, and settled on one of the best ET servers out there, even playing enough (hell, every night in fact) to be a clan admin - 'cept I couldn't get my mic working.
Point is, its been years since ET was played on the Lair, but here I am, back playing TF2, so if you stuck it out, make an appearance in the forums every now and then to check in with friends, you don't have to go anywhere !
New games will show up, you may find you are tired enough of the old game to try something new. And everything that comes around, goes around. Nobody has to leave permanently .. its their choice whether they contribute in the forums, but don't ever feel you aren't welcome back after an extended absence.
:2thumbs:
Prem, I'm not counting that brief period that Cain tossed the ET server back up. Other than Darth and Apache and I, no one seemed to want to play it.

I will still be hanging around so please stay with us as I have enjoyed playing with you the few times that we were able too squad up and yes I miss those great times playing with all the CLR's here :2thumbs: It is always fun too do that :) DO NOT LEAVE CAIN's LAIR! Yo Baller, how's it going buddy :2thumbs:
Basically there's no need for u to leave even if you don't play the games doesn't mean that u have to leave. U stay for the people and thats the main reason i am here. U can't forget the good old days when your mic would be blasting into my speakers every single time u killed someone in bf2. BF2 and 2142 are nothing without people you would like to play with. Even though the players are diminishing u still should chat in the forums and when BF3 comes out u can be ready to join us again. :2thumbs: Also baller those people that voted no shouldn't be taken seriously cause i bet they never heard of u before.

Cain's Lair has always been about the feeling of community and not simply about the games. If someone does not feel like they are part of the Cain family, they can leave freely BUT knowing full well they are more than welcome to come back when they desire and take part (or not) of new games Cain hosts.
Players like Dark, Apache and Goat can testify for the above as they have seen countless players leave when a server (game) was shut down, just to see those players come back to say hello, rejoin the community and occasionally take a stab at a new game.
This isn't directed at Baller directly, but more towards community members/family who at some point or another have lost a bit of the enthusiasm that comes with reading the forums daily and chatting with friends. It is completely natural and no one will take offense if a break is taken, because after all the doors are always open :2thumbs:

Baller, Baller, Baller. You haven't got it yet :? Games come and go but we still hang around in the background. In my case there is no game that I currently play here but I pop in from time to time to see what is happening and catch up on the news. You don't move house just because you don't see the neighbours in a while do you?
What you need to remember is that you are the Apache, Stormshadow and maybe even Cain of the future. It will be you they come here to play with, you will be the regular that they check to see if you are playing and they will want to join your squad. You have quite a following now from what I see and do you really want to start from scratch again :| Stick around, you are a part of this community whether you feel it or not. I voted no. If you aren't having fun and you need public support as the reason to stay, you shouldn't force yourself. Come and go as you please. There's no reason to create some big deal that you're going away unless you are actually going away as in deployment or going on vacation for several weeks.
This isn't a decision the community can make, it's one that must come from within yourself.

With that being said as well as the other posts in this topic. You don't need to "justify" your stay. I quit playing 2142 back when the conquest server went down. The only time I would play is the tournament games and then I only played 3-4 of them. I sat doing nothing for a good six months as a forum mod. Now I actively play TF2 and really enjoy it. Granted, unless I buy a new Pc, it will most likely be the last game I play here until that point but that doesn't mean I am going to fall off the grid.
You ask a stupid question and you shall receive a stupid answer. Some of these guys said no because of that very reason. They answered a stupid answer for a stupid question.
If you want to hang out then do so... if you want to leave then do so. We aren't gonna be pissed if you want to leave and we aren't gonna be pissed if you stay. The thing is you don't need to turn it into a dramafest. Just a simple "Hey guys I am not playing any games here and won't be around for a while. I will see you in the next game that comes along."
I voted no. If you aren't having fun and you need public support as the reason to stay, you shouldn't force yourself. Come and go as you please. Hell yeah. I havent played any online games in a few weeks, and for the past two months I have hardly played at all. But I will always stop by the forums. When I dont go to the forums for a week or so, I think about it and you all quite a bit, so it draws me back very quickly. I think you will feel the same way Baller.

This thread really sickens me. It's funny how people forget baller is only 12 or 13. That's still a fairly young age and is probably use to asking stupid questions all the time. This thread is probably emotional for him, since Baller and I talk on trillian a lot, and this was the topic before he posted it. Now, I didn't know he was going to make a poll about it, I thought he was giving his resignation (much like I did).
It's not like you NEVER asked a stupid question (or a curious one like this one) when you were Ballers age, and it's not like you still don't ask stupid questions, most people do it daily.
Now I believe this topic should just die. It's ballers choice whether to stay or not, and only he can make that decision.
