If this is any way related to the scrim, then this is just silly.
It was meant to have fun, not get frustrated and then eventually lose your head.
It isn't worth it.

I was in the server early last night and everything seemed fine. I must have missed whatever took place. In any event, I hope Todd explains what the problem was so we can attempt to fix it.

He was upset at the fact of having his post removed regarding last nights game. He felt last nights game was not fun due to the skill level of the opposing team and felt they were dishonest about their playing abilities. He never said they were cheating, he just was not having any fun(thats it). You cant put a clan of 24hr 7days a week pros against a bunch of part time weekend warriors and expect to do well.
Weve all gotten pissed off at one time or another when we get out butts handed to us. We need to realize that some people have all the time in the world to play or are just naturally good. While most of us have jobs, kids, mortgage, private school, trusts funds, mistrisses, daycare(I could go on) to worry about, while our love of gaming gets put on the backburner. The best thing i can say about this is when you get upset take a break. Your friends will still be there when you get back.

Groups like this play for either money or CAL and are extremely competitive. I used to play but I just don't have the time any more... Something I loved doing.
If you want to play these matches you need to be organized and prepared to lose. It is a lot different from pub matches. And looking at scores... both sides aren't that high up ladder :D:D but these things take time.

I was there and there was nothing we could do about the skill level last night. They were kicking our tails and we parked and communicated what everyone's roles was, and it was insane how quickly the tables turned. I saw a serious tantrum when the people who were owning us suddenly got owned, and owned hard.
I think everyone can back me up when I say that I dont let people smack talk, and when it began last night, I simply said "thats not cool- lets keep it fun" and it stopped immediately. No one was trying to humiliate anyone - we were just trying to get as many kills as we could and end a lopsided score- which we did and then some.
When that happens, it really does become suffocating for the otherside. We had UAVs, Helicopter, and Airstrikes keeping them inside. I sent 3 guys up the left side via the comm, and then Rico, Nailik and I buttoned down the right side- so that when they came down that way, we just mowed them down.
It was standard tactic. There were three others with Phantom rolling disruption behind the imaginary enemy lines, and at one point I recall seeing some furious typing by the otherside.
========
BUT....
If this has anything to do with what was happening as I logged in, I can speak to that as well. Our team was the one getting sat on. We couldnt move, no one was working togeather. We had angry members just running out into the open and getting sniped.
I did not observe anything unusual. Our new guests had incredible accuracy, which I questioned until I realized that they were using that super hi calibur sniper rifle, which in HC is a one shot one kill through cement no brainer.
I faced my teamates at several points as enemys as well, as I always go Auto-select my team. It makes it more fun if you do that.
What did not help was that people were getting angry with each other and blaming each other, rather than solving the problem.

I believe it's what happened on the private DoD server we had setup for a scrim.

So again we're back to people getting upset because they're being censored on these Boards. Did someone at least explain to Todd why the post was removed?

We delete or edit posts and entire threads daily. Most folks PM me (or a Senior Admin) to ask who did it and why.
We answer, and they understand, even if they may not agree with the reasoning.
A small number make a decision to not ask us, but choose instead to come to the Forum and complain LOUDLY to thousands of people who had nothing to do with pulling their post, and who have no idea why the person's post was pulled.
If they want an answer, they ask me (or Sirex, Apache, BlackArrow, etc), if they want attention they make a public post complaining.
Todd and Needle know how to PM me.

It just seems to me that's backwards. If someone with the power to censor someone else uses that power, it's incumbent upon the actor to explain the action. Without that explanation, the action seems arbitrary and capricious. And that's why people get upset.
Again, a little more communication will go a loooong way.

Fair comment Tuck.
I post on a Zillion Internet Boards and have done so back into the BBS days.
At least for me it is rare for a moderator to explain his/her actions without me asking since I can easily bet I have broken some rule or offended someone by my post, without having to wait for a moderator to tell me that.

Is it really worth losing any one good person to maintain what is essentially an authoritarian tradition?

I have ALWAYS enjoyed playing with and against Todd and his very pleasant daughter, but Todd tends to allow these games to upset him too much.
Todd also tends to believe that people who kill him are cheating, which is why his post the other night after the match was pulled, and I believe he knows why it was pulled.
I can't remember if this is the second or third time Todd has quit one of my servers, but I do remember a big blow-up over the 2142 server.
Keep it light Todd, and remember these are only games my friend, if you change your mind we will be right here; if not best wishes for the future wherever you land.

best advice ever. People tend to let these games get to them too much. If you find that starting to happen, just take a moment, step back, and breath. Trust me it helps. I have to do that all the time. :2thumbs:

For everyone who ever reads this thread, just remember one thing:
Pride is a silly thing, especially in situations like this.
I doubt that Todd will ever read any of this, and if he does, I wonder if he can swallow his pride and just come back to his friends.
The clear point here is that you can come back from this: no questions asked, pick up where you left off, and if you try to apologize or explain why you left/came back etc. -- you will get this kind of response from:
" yeah yeah yeah...who cares what kinda fuzzy apology you just offered- frag that animal on the MG - he's wiping us all over the map with that sucker!!!"

I auto select, but some pick a particular side because of natural advantages starting out. Sometimes one side gets loaded with Uber players, and the other side gets owned..
It can get frustrating to die repeatedly without even getting a shot off. I'm as guilty as anyone else about getting worked up.
Choices? Just observe some players for awhile, see if you can pick up anything new. Walk away, take a breather. HIDE.. lol
When I got owned repeatedly by one player, I observed him for awhile, and he was JUST THAT GOOD. Made me sick... :|
I personally don't do matches anymore, as I'm just not one of the top players. I can see elite uber players on CLR servers any time I log on. They have a big, red, target on my posterior.. hehehe
Todd got upset in 2142, upset at CoD4.. He got REALLY good at both. He will be back to frag us again, I'm sure.
It is a game, we can all get decent or good, or great, depending on your naturaly abilities and knowing the maps by heart. The community, chat, Voip, is what makes it FUN no matter what, the majority of the time.
I love Todd and PG to death. (No pun intended) lol
