Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox 360 - Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/14/final-fantasy-xiii-coming-to-xbox-360/)
Square has announced at the Microsoft press conference that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 in North America and Europe. What a huge coup for Microsoft, and what a great piece of news for Xbox 360 owners who also happen to be great console RPG lovers.

I was never a big Final Fantasy fan anyway so I really didn't care but that really sucks for Sony because they continue to lose exclusive titles such as Resident Evil 5 and now Final Fantasy.

Yeah, they took too long to get enough games out (and the price down) to make the PS3 a legitimate buy for average consumers, and it's hurting them with lost exclusives. The 360 is currently the undisputed king in third-party sales. PS3 will catch up at some point, I believe they're selling faster than 360s are these days, but the exclusives will already be gone.
I hate exclusives for any platform though, I just want to play the damn games.

While FF is a coup for XBox, I think they're getting desperate. They presented perhaps the single most blatant rip-off of the competition I've ever seen in that Mii-like character creator they showed off on Monday, and they issued a stringent press release over the weekend that smacked Sony with the gauntlet and said they would sell more consoles in the end.
Not only does this look bad for them to say, since they already have the console lead anyway, but the real trouble is, they WON'T sell more in the end unless they release a very cheap Blu-Ray add-on. If Sony is smart, they'll continue pursuing games, try to lower their price, and hammer the bejesus out of the public about Blu-Ray over the next few months. They're still the best Blu-Ray player on the market for under $1,000, and they have a real opportunity here to take advantage of that.
That being said, though all three presentations at E3 were apparently weak, 360 probably came off slightly on top. I don't care about God of War, so that killed the PS3 conference, and I would have to see more about the enhanced WiiMove equipment to see if it will make a difference. If it does though, can you imagine a Star Wars game where you control every aspect of lightsaber combat?

It was surprising for me to see Sony talk about no plans on reducing their price anytime soon in order to "improve profitability". They took the long term view with including Blu-Ray, but now they're too short-sighted to drop the price to get more units out there? I don't understand what they're thinking. They need to match the 360's price and push the Blu-Ray player (and work with their studio partners to get the movie prices down) and they need to do it now. Now that Blu-Ray is an accepted standard, player prices are going to start dropping fast as more competition enters the market and manufacturing costs lower...and there goes my only reason to buy a PS3, they aren't enough PS3-only games to justify buying another console for just gaming.
If Sony is going to "win" this console war, they need to get serious. I think both consoles will probably about even out in the end, with the Wii being the oddball console that outsells both of them put together...but nobody buys games for.
